Intro to Transporting Your Kayak by Car
Arguably one of the most frustrating aspects to using a kayak is getting the boat to and from the water. This includes not only getting the kayak in the water from your car, but also just getting the kayak to the lake in the first place. Should you want to bring more than one kayak, the question of transporting them to the water can be tough. Some models of cars can’t even effectively move a single kayak; that is until the invention and proliferation of the foldable Flip-Kat® that has totally changed the game! There is a new way to transport your kayak and it’s better than ever.

The Old Way
When your kayaks don’t fold, they can get extremely unruly to transport. Generally, there are a few paths you could approach this issue depending on what type of car you have. For trucks with a larger bed, you may be able to lock down your kayaks in the back with the tips sticking up and out. Cars without a bed for storage usually opt to attach their kayaks to the roof of the car. This requires a roof rack and the ability to get your kayak up over your head and locked onto the roof, two things that aren’t guaranteed for every user.
The New Way
The Flip-Kat® has completely reimagined the kayak transportation game. The foldable design allows all car models to get a little more. Some car models will be able to fit the foldable Flip-Kat® into their trunk, others can have them strapped to the top, and truck beds can hold multiple. The folded rectangle design makes for much easier handling as well. With the Flip-Kat®, getting on the water has never been easier. While folded, the kayak is only 53 inches long, 23 inches wide, and 27 inches tall making it devilishly transportable. This doesn’t mean you have a small kayak either. Flipped out, the Flip-Kat® is still over 11 feet long and 4 feet wide.
Kayaks are great watercrafts once they are in the water, but many people run into issues transporting their kayak to the waterside. This makes sense; many kayaks are a little long and unruly for an individual to efficiently move, especially if there is some rough terrain to cross to reach the boat launch.
By Car Type
Depending on the exact model of your car, transporting your Flip-Kat® may vary. However, here are some takeaways you can expect from each of these car categories:
Sedan
With sedans, you generally don’t have a ton of storage space, especially for a kayak. In fact, trying to transport a kayak with a sedan in the old way just may not work. The foldable nature of the Flip-Kat® is huge in this context; some sedans will even have a chance to fit the folded rectangle in the back. For those with roof racks, you should be able to attach a Flip-Kat® or two to the roof.
Coupe
Perhaps even more so than a sedan, a coupe is not traditionally thought of as a car that can effectively transport a kayak. The lack of space can make it difficult to fit a lot of people in your coupe, nevermind a long kayak. With the foldable Flip-Kat®, there is still a chance. Depending on your car and if you’re traveling alone, you may be able to fit a folded Flip-Kat® inside. If you have a roof rack, you’ll almost certainly be able to transport a Flip-Kat® or two on top of a coupe!
SUV
SUVs are a great category of car for moving most things, including kayaks. Going the old way, kayaks can be tossed on top of a SUV to get a pair over to the water. The foldable Flip-Kat® has changed the game even for these cars, though. With the foldable design, you usually can not only attach some Flip-Kat®s to the roof, but also in the back of the SUV if it isn’t filled with people. The foldable design will certainly allow more kayaks to be transported easier when using a SUV.
Crossover/Hatchback
Crossovers/hatchbacks can be effective moving a kayak the old way, if you have a roof rack. An old kayak generally won’t fit inside, so numbers get limited. Flip-Kat®s and the new way to transport kayaks with the Flip-Kat®’s foldable design allows for more kayaks to be transported. Some crossovers/hatchbacks will be able to fit at least one Flip-Kat® into the car and more on the roof rack. Flip-Kat®s may be able to dramatically increase your kayak hauling capacities with the foldable design in a crossover/hatchback.
Mini Van
Minivans can be effective for moving kayaks the old way if you have a roof rack. If the inside is totally free of extra passengers, you may be able to fit a long kayak inside. The foldable Flip-Kat® design can totally change the game. Most minivans will be able to fit at least one folded kayak inside. Having a roof rack will further expand your Flip-Kat® carrying capacity! With the right minivan, you can have a surprisingly effective kayak-carrying vehicle with the power of the Flip-Kat®.
